The Ballad of Bob - A Sea Shanty Obituary
In the land of Hendersonville, ol' Bob met his fate,
On June twenty-five, two thousand twenty-three, the hour late,
From pneumonia's grip, he couldn't escape,
Pardee Hospital claimed his soul, sealed his fate.
Hey ho, on the land and sea,
Its where we go for memories made,
Through the years we'll be set free,
Bob's spirit is his legacy!
Oh, Bob James Adams, a Colorado-born son,
Sailed the seas of life, his journey now done,
Born on the Fourth of July, proud and true,
To Alan and Margaret, his parents, he drew.
Garfield Grade School and North Jr. High he tread,
Colorado Springs High School, where he earned his thread,
Navy called his name, off to Honolulu's shore,
Two years he toiled, the Fleet Post Office, he bore.
USS Hancock he joined, an aircraft carrier's deck,
Lessons and tales, his kids will forever trek,
From the Navy he parted, Colorado he returned,
Real estate became his trade, houses he churned.
A '62 Corvette, his pride and delight,
To the Continental Divide Raceway, he'd take flight,
Greeley was the place where his sister Ann resided,
There he met Angie, love blossomed, undivided.
In Albuquerque, '63, Bob and Angie tied the knot,
Colorado Springs their home, where love was sought,
From a small garage apartment to a home anew,
In the historic North End, their family grew.
Southwest's allure, Bob couldn't resist,
To New Mexico he traveled, moments of bliss,
Taos and Santa Fe, where his heart would roam,
Sante Fe Opera's season he called his own.
Flyfishing's charm, he cherished till the end,
Tying his own flies, rivers his friend,
In '96, with Laurie he found love anew,
Brittany and Taylor, her children, his crew.
Hendersonville called, near Asheville's shore,
Retirement's haven, where their hearts would soar,
Frames for Laurie's art and gardens for the young,
Bob's legacy flourished, his praises sung.
Survived by his kin, his love never fades,
Wife, siblings, sons, step-children, their lives he made,
Seven grandchildren, his legacy shall endure,
With family to be reunited for sure.
